Journey of Gurdwara
Our Gurdwara started off at No.59 Silvester Road, in 1974 in East Dulwich. We previously prayed at the Sikh Sangat Gurdwara, Campbell Road, in Bow East London. Due to the travel time between South East and East London and the increase of the Sangat in the South East, it was decided to open up a Gurdwara locally. A new premises was purchased using voluntary contributions by the Sangat and a new committee was formed, this committee was Presided by S. Amar Singh Taak and Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib Ji East Dulwich was now formed.
We stayed in this premises for 10-11 years, once again by Wahegurus grace the size of the Sangat increased and the need for a bigger premises emerged. We then purchased No.2 Shawbury Road, a former Salvation Army Hall, once again from voluntary contributions from the Sangat.
Our Gurdwara
We moved into 2 Shawbury Road in 1984/85 purchasing it from The Salvation Army. The Sangat and Committee fought hard to obtain the building as another buyer wished to turn it into a Nightclub. After much deliberation and by Waheguru’s grace, we were offered the purchasing rights to the building. Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib Ji remained locally.
Since then we have maintained the current building and adapted it to match our ever growing Sangat. In 1999 we underwent a major £100,000 refurbishment to include a second floor to house our Darbar Sahib and to have a large Langar Hall on the Ground Floor. All the money was raised by contributions from the Sangat.
Currently, the Gurdwara is open on Sundays Only.
